Who is the Program for?

The CACE Program is for anyone who helps adults learn in the private or public sector. You will benefit from this program if you:

  • Instruct or train adults in classroom or other settings
  • Develop, facilitate or coordinate training or education programs in business, industry, government, institutions or community organizations
  • Provide support services to adult education
  • Design educational materials for adults
  • Admission Requirements

    For maximum benefit from the program we recommend that you have at least one year of experience as an instructor, facilitator, developer, program planner or administrator of adult education, whether in a paid or volunteer position.

    Applications to the program are accepted throughout the year. To apply, simply complete and submit the application form and we will send you a welcome letter when your application has been approved. If you are ready to enrol in your first course, you can also complete the Course Registration portion and submit tuition payment at the same time. After you are registered in a course, we will mail you a letter confirming your registration. You can also find this information, as well as the class location, any required textbooks and income tax receipts online in Aurora Student.

    Program Objectives

    With the emphasis on lifelong learning in a global economy, there is a demand for adult educators and trainers who can facilitate the educational process and take a leadership role in the field of adult education.

    Opportunities

    The Institute of Performance and Learning (IPL) recognizes CACE Program. Students enrolled in this program are eligible for student membership with IPL, and graduates are given a credit of one year towards the work experience requirement of the Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) designation.

    up to 5 years (part time – varied formats) 250 hours

    Course Requirements

    The 250-hour program consists of 4 required courses (150 hours); (37.5 hours each) and 100 hours of elective courses. Elective courses are designed to address current issues in the field. Elective courses offered face-to-face may vary from those available online. Many are offered in a workshop format. A two-day workshop counts as 15 hours elective credit in CACE; a three day workshop counts as 20 hours elective credit.

    FAQs

    What is Online Learning?

    Online learning is how we offer the course content. The where and when and is completely up to you. You’re free to decide the way that you’d like to integrate the classroom into your life, whether you’d like to do the course work on lunch breaks, in bed, or on a picnic table on a leisurely Saturday afternoon. Simply download the course modules, and learn at your own pace. Remember, instructors are still available to help when you need it.

    Online courses are delivered through UofM’s online learning management system UM Learn.

    Can I just enroll in a single course if I'm not interested in the entire program?

    Yes, you can enroll in just a single course. Completed courses can later be applied towards a Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education by Extended Education at the University of Manitoba.

    Submit transcripts of the highest level of education you have completed. Student copies or photocopies are not acceptable. Transcripts become the property of University of Manitoba and will not be returned.
