Program Description

Master the management of a retail space. From business perspectives to accounting, and marketing to management, you’ll attain the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively oversee the operations of a Liquor Mart location.

Certificate in Applied Management: Retail Management Specialization

 

Program Length

Students will have five years from the date of admission to complete the program.

Admission Requirements

Students must be employees of Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries (MBLL)..

Course Requirements

Course requirements include five courses provided by Extended Education. This includes 246 hours plus Selected Topics in Retail Management (36 hours) through MBLLStudents are required to complete either Managing the Human Resource Function OR Organizational Behaviour. Credit will not be given for completion of both.

Fees

$100 application for applying to the program and $535.00 per course.

    • MGMT 0100 – Canadian Business: An Introduction
    • MGMT 0140 – Introduction to Marketing
    • FINC 0200 – Introductory Accounting for Business
    • MGMT 0120 – Managerial Communication

And one of:

  • HRM 0100 – Managing the Human Resource Function
  • MGMT 0110 – Organizational Behaviour

Optional Tutorial

  • FINC 0800 – Introductory Accounting for Business Tutorial

Required Retail Management (RM) Course

  • Selected Topics in Retail Management (36 hours) through MBLL

Graduation

In order to be eligible to graduate, students must make a formal application at the beginning of the session in which they expect to complete graduation requirements, before the last date of the registration revision period.This can be done on-line through Aurora.  (Login, select “Enrolment and Academic Records”, select “Declarations”, and follow the instructions.  If the date you wish to graduate does not appear, you will need to contact an advisor in your Faculty as soon as possible; as you may have missed the online application deadline).

The deadline date for declaring your intention is the end of the revision period in the term in which you expect to complete your courses. For example:

  • for Spring graduation, declare by mid-January
  • for Fall graduation, declare by late July/early August
  • for February graduation, declare by mid-September

Students will have five years from the date of admission to complete the program.

Do I have to take the courses in a specific order?

No

Can I just enroll in a single course if I'm not interested in the entire program?

Yes, you can enroll in just a single course. Completed courses can later be applied towards a Certificate.
