Program Description

Get the knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective manager in the field of quality management. Endorsed by the Manitoba Section of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) the program will prepare you to implement or manage quality programs within your organization. The program is periodically reviewed by an Advisory Committee consisting of representatives from industry, government, ASQ and the University of Manitoba, ensuring that your education is relevant and up-to-date.

Who is the Program for?

Whether you’re hoping to enter the field, or are currently employed in a quality management capacity, this program provides the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective managers in the field of quality in private industry, government, educational institutions, healthcare, non-profit organizations, consulting firms and other areas.

Admission Requirements

There are no academic prerequisites to enter this program. However, if you have not used basic mathematics or statistics for some time, we recommend you refresh your skills by reviewing any introductory math or statistics text before starting. All course material is printed in English. Students whose first language is not English may be required to attain a TOEFL score of 550 or 213 on the computer-based TOEFL or an IELTS score of 6.5 in accordance with University requirements.

Up to 2 years – 2 courses (part time) 72 hours. Courses start in September and January.

Fees

$100 application for applying to the program and $625.00 per course.

Certification/Graduation

To qualify for graduation and your Certificate in Quality Management, you must successfully complete both courses within two years of admission into the program and achieve a minimum overall average grade of “C.” Upon completion of both courses through the University of Manitoba, students achieving an overall GPA of 4.0 or higher, will be eligible to graduate “with distinction.” Graduates receive a Certificate in Quality Management from the University of Manitoba.

Awards

The Manitoba Section of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) recognizes excellence in the Certificate in Quality Management program through the Award for Academic Achievement presented to the graduating student from Manitoba with the highest program grade point average.

What is Online Learning?

Online learning is how we offer the course content. The where and when and is completely up to you. You’re free to decide the way that you’d like to integrate the classroom into your life, whether you’d like to do the course work on lunch breaks, in bed, or on a picnic table on a leisurely Saturday afternoon. Simply download the course modules, and learn at your own pace. Remember, instructors are still available to help when you need it.

Online courses are delivered through UofM’s online learning management system UM Learn.

How long does it take to complete the program?

Up to 2 years – 2 courses (part time) 72 hours.

Can I just enroll in a single course if I'm not interested in the entire program?

Yes, you can enroll in just a single course. Completed courses can later be applied towards a Certificate in Quality Management.

Is there textbook?

You will require one textbook that can be used for both courses.
