Whether you work in the public or private sector, the program will help you develop your managerial knowledge and skills through a coordinated, intensive management development program.

The program is offered in co-operation with the Canadian Institute of Management (CIM). With over 700 members, the Winnipeg Chapter of the CIM is the largest in Canada.

The program is offered in co-operation with the Canadian Institute of Management (CIM). With over 700 members, the Winnipeg Chapter of the CIM is the largest in Canada. Holders of the Certificate in Management and Administration will be eligible to apply for the C.I.M. (Certified in Management) designation.

Admission Requirements

The standard admission criteria for a certificate program (i.e. university entry as evidenced by a high-school diploma or mature student status) apply. Additional requirements apply in order to receive the professional designation with the Canadian Institute of Management.

Program Length

4 years (part time-evening), can be fast tracked for earlier completion. You have a maximum of seven years from date of admission to complete the program. 7 required courses, 1 elective course

Certification/Graduation

Students must achieve a minimum grade of “C” (60%) in each required and elective course. In order to be eligible to graduate, you must submit the Application for Graduation. Upon graduation, you will also qualify for the Certified in Management (CIM) designation awarded by the Canadian Institute of Management.In order to be eligible to graduate, students must make a formal application at the beginning of the session in which they expect to complete graduation requirements, before the last date of the registration revision period.This can be done on-line through Aurora. (Login, select “Enrolment and Academic Records”, select “Declarations”, and follow the instructions. If the date you wish to graduate does not appear, you will need to contact an advisor in your Faculty as soon as possible; as you may have missed the online application deadline).The deadline date for declaring your intention is the end of the revision period in the term in which you expect to complete your courses.

For example:

  • For Spring graduation, declare by mid-January
  • For Fall graduation, declare by late July/early August
  • For February graduation, declare by mid-September

Institute Awards

The Canadian Institute of Management recognizes excellence in the program by awarding Honours standing to those graduates achieving a program grade point average of 4.0 or higher. Please note that students with more than three course exemptions are not eligible for Honours standing.

Fees

$100 application for applying to the program.

  • Typical Course Fee (Tuition) Classroom $535/per course. Online $535/per course CIM Annual Student Membership Fee (valid from June 1–May 31)
  • Annual: $210.00 + $10.50 GST = $220.50
  • Prorated Winter Term Registration only Membership fee: $105.00 + $5.25 GST = $110.25
  • Course Transfer Fee: $35.00 will be applied to any courses taken when student membership is not in good standing
  • CAM: UM students who have been approved for credit for MGMT 0120 are required to pay $25.00 transfer fee.

In order to have courses applied towards the Certificate in Management the yearly membership must be submitted along with the course registration Note: The membership portion of the course fee is non-refundable and membership continues for the remainder of the year. Student information will be forwarded to the Canadian Institute of Management for inclusion in the CIM membership roster. Membership fees must be submitted upon registration each year to have courses applied towards the CIM program.

Transfer Credit

Do I have options to continue my education once I complete the CIM program?Yes! A degree is closer than you think! Once you complete the CIMA program with Continuing Education, you can block transfer up to 24 credits of the 90 you will need to graduate from the Bachelor of Arts Integrated Studies (BAIS). This new 90 credit hour degree program is offered by the Faculty of Arts. It was developed, in collaboration with Extended Education, for working adults who have completed some post-secondary education and would like to complete an undergraduate degree. If you’re a mid-career adult who never had the chance to start a university degree or to finish one, then the Bachelor of Arts Integrated Studies is for you. Now it’s possible for you to earn an undergraduate degree – the credential that more and more employers require in the workplace. If you want to advance within your profession, make a career change or are interested in a professional or personal challenge, this program is a perfect place to start. And you can do it all while still working full-time. You’ll engage in exciting new learning and the intellectual challenges that lead to professional and personal growth. Bachelor of Arts Integrated Studies – a degree that gives you choices:

  • Complete a university degree part-time while working full-time.
  • Get credit for U of M certificates and degree courses you’ve already completed.
  • Focus on what’s relevant to your professional and personal interests.
  • Choose from convenient course delivery formats (e.g. face-to-face, blended, online).
  • Select courses from flexible schedules that suit working adults.
  • Eligible for Chartered Manager Designation with Canadian Institute of Management.

What is Online Learning?

Online learning is how we offer the course content. The where and when and is completely up to you. You’re free to decide the way that you’d like to integrate the classroom into your life, whether you’d like to do the course work on lunch breaks, in bed, or on a picnic table on a leisurely Saturday afternoon. Simply download the course modules, and learn at your own pace. Remember, instructors are still available to help when you need it.Online courses are delivered through UofM’s online learning management system UM Learn.

How long does it take to complete the program?

4 years (part time-evening), can be fast tracked for earlier completion. Students have 7 years maximum from date of admission to complete the program. 7 required courses, 1 elective course

Do I have to take the courses in a specific order?

FINC 0200 is a prerequisite to FINC0300 and MGMT 0400 is taken as the last course in the program.

Can I just enroll in a single course if I'm not interested in the entire program?

Yes, you can enroll in just a single course. Completed courses can later be applied towards a Certificate.
